now, i'm in sierra flor. that's a school mostly for kids whose parents work on the rose plantation in the same area. it's located 15km before latacunga, the capital of the province cotopaxi (and next to the most beaufitul volcano of the world). just to tell you where you would have to go, if you wanted to visit :-) 1km after lasso (a very small town 1h after the south bus terminal of quito), you go to the left and walk (no bus, it's a forest track and when it's dark, there is no light) 30 minutes. then you're here!
at least, you'll see pretty roses. this area is one of the world's most famous to export roses. every week, a huge cargo-airplane leaves the city with a big load of thornless roses to bring to luxemburg.
those huge agaves are on the way from sierra flor to the panamericana. it's the highway that goes through the whole american continent. it's where i take the bus to latacunga or quito after my 30 minutes-walk.
some strange (dead) plants that look like ghosts. does anyone know what they are?
horses on the other side of the forest from school. behind, there is the cotopaxi volcano which you can't see because of the clouds.
the only one that isn't afraid of us :-)
he / she is trying to eat efren's hand
getting dark over sierra flor
clear sky at night, quite common here.
view out of my window. sometimes, our 3 alpacas are also there.
that's one of the volunteer's houses and behind, you can finally spot the cotopaxi without clouds!
it's the highest (5897m) active volcano in the world and its form is the most perfect cone.
getting dark, horses are going to sleep.
and the clouds are coming again. it's changing every 2 minutes.
friday 13th was teacher's day (maybe because it was also day of bad luck?). to every "maestro" the students gave a rose (from the plantation), that was cute. later - after we already had eaten lunch - we were invited to eat ceviche (cold tomato soup with loads of onions and fried scampi, you eat it with fried banana and popcorn inside) made by a student's parents. then cake with coloured marshmallow-topping that tasted of dog. at last, they gave a cup to everyone with his name on (here, i'm called susana).
the orange one is my house. the buildings on the right side are the "guarderia", where i'm working.
some other mountain we see from sierra flor..
cactus on the street
cotopaxi, seen from the panamericana
