jungle: tena etc.

after our trip to the huge waterfall, estrella and me continued exploring the jungle. we went to tena, a city from where you can do great jungle-trips. going out on friday night, we got to know two guys (later known as "maricones" - insider joke :-)) who suggested us for saturday to go to see monkeys, swim in the river and learn about jungle-cultures on saturday.
saturday morning, on the way to ahuano, from where our expedition started.
amazonian houses next to the road
after driving with the camioneta, our next means of transport was the motor canoe to get to an animal rescue station called amazoonico
first free monkey we saw - what an experience :-) animals here come either from police who took them from illegal trade, or from hunters that found them injured. one monkey for example was found with a broken head bone, because people shot his mummy (he was on her back) instead of him, so the baby fell down. they wanted to sell him as a pet.
that was really funny. in the middle of the jungle, you can flush the paper - in the whole country actually you have to put it into a rubbish bin, as the water here isn't strong enough to take it away.
our guided tour starts with seeing these cute ones!
a lot of turtles - in the same water, you can find this:
a caiman!
i forgot what this exactly is, but i think it's not some kind of pig :-)
the ozelot halfway sleeping
sucking his thumb :-)
that's a tree with the roots outside of the earth. that's why he can move his posision slowly - awesome :-)
tucans
after visiting the zoo and a short canoe ride, we had some relaxation time before learning about kichwa-weapons
our guide explaining us this leave-buckler. the indigenous are inside it and watch through the little holes. when they want to shoot an animal, they take the following weapon and use it also through the little hole.
we could try to use this sort of blowpipe. it's just a pipe of about 2 meters lenght, you put a wooden stick with a venomed point inside and blow hard. but it's quite difficult, i never managed to reach the place i should have.
after "hunting", we went to swim in the river napo. many, many kilometers later, he will flow into the amazon.
me on the tarzan-rope to jump into the middle of the river!
afterwards, having lunch with this view. this sort of car-ferry passed from one to the other riverside all the time.
on this street, we walked 30 minutes to misahualli. it was so hot! the french maricon maybe confused this street with a catwalk :-)
afterwards, we took another canoe to go to some island to see indigenous of the wuaorani-tribe
they painted our faces in their traditional way
they showed us how they dance. and no, they don't wear clothes.
our girl-group with the only wuaorani-guy :-) the "string around his thing" he's wearing looks pretty unconfortable i think..
me with the snake-girl
the last time this day, swimming in napo. i still got my face-colour on (even after washing twice with soap, my skin was still a bit orange)
on the beach, there were wild monkeys
in the evening we went partying with our new friends :-) first, we had a beer on the riverside just opposite the club we went afterwards!
in the club! i was so cool and took my binoculars-case because i didn't have any small bag there :-)
our kichwa-girl with her endless long hair that is enough for all of us :-)
the next day, me and jeremy went to see the famous jumandy-caves. estrella and jorge were still sleeping at that time :-)
that's either broccoli or cauliflower, i don't remember the name - yes, it's the real name!
the penis of jumandy - also the real name!
after already swimming through a lake, we could dive down 4 meters in a hole just big enough for a human
jeremy having a free massaage by the waterfall :-)
walking through the water in order to get to the end of the caves
finally sunlight!
coming out, welcome to paradise
that's the tourist-complex around the caves. was actually a really good slide :-)
before going back towards cold quito (or even colder cotopaxi), a picture of the street in front of our hotel..
..and the last pizza (best one ever tasted in ecuador!)
the maricones eating their last ice cream in the hot weather :-)
